Thats right, 5 stars AND im a huge pink floyd fan
I just think its funny that people are either rating this 5 stars or 1. The people that give it one star basically dont like it because they think its a bad thing to cover pink floyd. Well, its a good song. I was a little skeptical the first time I heard it, but its well done. True to their own style. If you gave it one star, you probably hate all covers, and dont realize that sometimes cover songs are a great way to gain exposure to your band. In addition, covers are a great way for an artist to show what their 'sound is' by directly comparing it to another. Thanks for reading.
some kind of visionary
Okay...so the original Pink Floyd track is amazing. But that doesn't mean it can't be interpreted into something great. The Scissor Sisters version is one of the best classic-to-disco dance tracks...ever. Its pointless to compare this version to the original because the are two completey different genres. When I feel moody or calm: Pink Floyd. When I want a blast of energy without the Redbull: Scissor Sisters!
A Professional DJ weighs in!
Okay, so I am a DJ and a fan of the original track. I want to state, for the record that the copyright holder of the lyrics (most likely one or two original band members still) had to sign on for this cover to legally be made and released. People who are not in the industry quickly forget how much politics are involved... As for it being a cover... Okay, YOUNG rock fans are embracing dance music. More importantly, the genre alienation is breaking down! Plain White Tees covered Rihanna (yes they have performed the song Umbrella and head over to You Tube if you don't believe me) & Kanye West sampled Daft Punk (Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger was sampled for Kanye's track Stronger). Now with that little news flash out of the way... on to the remixes. I was on the fense at first. I mean, the Paper Faces (a.k.a. Stuart Price [Madonna, Coldplay, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani, Diddy production & remix credits]) remixes were not included. That is a total downgrade for anyone who does not have them. However, as Techno and Electro are making strong showing now in the US and abroad, the included ATOC remixes are of good use. The ATOC take is sexy. It has a spakling piano line that just wraps you in. Tiga's mixes, on the other hand are trip-hop/hip-hop/breakbeat in style. I am not not really a fan of Tiga's work to begin with, so I have to be honest about that. I thought (as objectively as possible) that the Tiga mixes were okay. I would not play them out at a gig, but I can see someone spending a buck on them and being happy. The remix lengths are decent. The are long enough for club use, but short enough for most to enjoy them as casual listening. Would I spend another dollar on the ATOC mixes? Yes, but only because Stuart's are not here. Would I spend the dollar on them ignorinig Stuart's work? Yes, but I would look around a little first, in case I saw something better. Final verdit: good, but forgetable...
