iTunes Review
Frontman Chad Wolf hails from South Carolina and his bandmates are Swedish, but fans of sensitive-guy Britpop bands like Coldplay and the Verve will take an immediate liking to Carolina Liar's major label debut Coming to Terms. It's got synth-heavy riffs, crystalline production, an androgynous singer with heartthrob good looks, and love songs meant for romance. Indeed, just about anyone who likes well-crafted pop songs with lyrics that are equally witty and sentimental can get into this filler-free album, as every song is strong enough to either start or close a set with. Although the opening hit "I'm Not Over" is slathered in layers of studio wizardry, underneath it all stands a strong song with catchy melodies and lyrics that hinge on a universal empathy of being hung-up on someone. The wiry, new-wave influenced "Last Night" begs for fashionably hip young kids in angular haircuts to strut their stuff at a club that hosts DJs partial to Interpol and the Killers. "Show Me What I'm Looking For" is a heart-conquering ballad that's much too strong to be drowned under the aural condiments of its heavy production.
Customer Reviews
Have you ever felt an album is "yours"?
After (embarrasingly enough) hearing "I'm Not Over" on The Hills, I got this CD and it was perfectly what I love! I'm Not Over 10/10: I really love the chorus for some reason, just the melody is great! Coming to Terms 9/10: Although I really like the begining, it seems out of place after the 1st song. If it was my decision, I would have switched I'm Not Over and Coming to Terms Last Night 10/10: With all the techno beats, it seems (a little) out of place of their style, but, nonetheless, still great. Show Me What I'm Looking for 8/10: Not my favorite, I think maybe I think its a little too straightforward for me. Simple Life 9/10: Nice, the lyrics are good and I (once again) really like the chorus Alll That Sh** Is Gone 9/10: Its good, but something about it bothers me, I can't put my finger on it. California Bound 10/10: Its so good! Gosh, it makes me so happy, its good Done Stealin' 7/10: My least favorite on the album, it just isn't doing it for me Something to Die for 9/10: This song really rocks. It really kicks butt. Beautiful World 10/10: This is my favorite. If you don't buy any other songs, buy this Better Alone: 8/10: Gosh, after Beautiful World, I don't think ANY song could be as great When You Are Near 9/10: Its good, a little cliche, but hey, thats okay with me Open the Door 8/10: Its not my favorite, see I have this feeling that Apple puts songs as "Album Only" randomly and its wierd and I don't like it Hit Bottom 7/10: I don't know, I really don't understand the "Album Only" on this, I just don't like these two Undone 10/10: My second favorite. Literally, I love it so much, its so...pretty! A great, great ending to a great album. Really great.
Just Amazing
All of these songs are very catchy. I hate how there are albums where one song is bought and the rest are just very low on popularity because all of the songs are great
Chad Wolf is phenomenal
I know Chad from the L.A. songwriter scene. He's always been great, but this band takes it to another level. Awesome production, lyrics, and energy. Buy it. You won't be disappointed.
