Here comes the storm...
XV launched Complex in 2006, but this is not his freshman effort, and it shows. A variety of styles, beats and tempos come at you with a confident, competent delivery. Although he spends a great deal of this album talking about himself (at least 5 tracks form the album) they are neither bragging nor obnoxious, and should be treated as an introduction to an exciting young talent. As thought provoking and lyrically dextrous as XV is, you cant help feeling there is more going on in his head than he is letting on, and should follow this young mans career with interest. Cruise (Tr 4) is playful and melodic, King of the City (Tr 7) is a Bombastic Sonic Mambo Assault, and Song For You (Tr 11 and best of the album) is as harsh and intelligent as anything you would have heard in a while. I hope to God iTunes puts his next mixtape up here, too. Any Hip-Hop fan curious as to where the Next Big Thing will come from... its not NY, LA or the Bay. Its Kansas. You have been warned.
