Confessions finds Liza Minnelli getting intimate with a set of lovingly-chosen pop standards along with some neglected gems. This release — her first non-cast album in well over a decade — takes its inspiration from casual evenings Liza spent with musician friends at her home over the years. Drawing upon such legendary songwriters as Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Cy Coleman and Hugh Martin for material, the album avoids showbiz glitter in favor of old-fashioned romance and bittersweet nostalgia. Minnelli fills tunes like “This Heart of Mine,” “You Fascinate Me So” and “I Must Have That Man” with a sensuous joie de vivre, teasing the nuances out of each lyric. She especially has fun with “He’s a Tramp” (from Disney’s Lady and the Tramp) and “Moments Like This.” Her rendition of “Remind Me” is elegantly rueful, while her take on the Sinatra classic “All the Way” aches with longing. By interpreting the music she loves in no-frills fashion, Minnelli makes Confessions one of the most satisfying albums in her iconic career.

What a wonderful new CD from this legendary performer! LiZa's voice has taken on a new maturity, and in these songs she is velvety-smooth...'All The Way' and 'At Last' are my favorite cuts...If you close your eyes, you could almost imagine sitting in a chic cabaret club, sipping a Martini, watching LiZa and Billy!
