Well Done!

I bought this album as Dr. Adler will soon be teaching Trumpet at my college, and I have to say that I am very excited to study with him next semester and throughout the rest of my college years. I was very thrilled to hear the beautiful sound of his horn, the varied compositions blending the perfect combination of virtuosity and emotion. This album is the whole package, seamlessly flowing from one track to the next, each composition both interesting and innovative. The "This is David Baker" quotes inside of "This Is: ...By the Time I Looked..." particularly caught my interest as a jazz musician, I absolutely love this mix of classical style and jazz quotes; the idea of having jazz composers write for a classical setting is particularly inspiring. This album is executed with grace and subtle brilliance; I can't wait to hear more!

Incredible!

I can't stop listening to this album. John Adler is actually one of my professors at Virginia Tech and he's one of the most talented musicians in the departement. The pianist, Tracy Cowden, is also a professor of mine and is an incredible performer as well. John asked a number of composers to write classical music with a jazz influence and this CD is the result of that. My personal favorites are From the Barrage Comes Clarity by Dan Cavanugh and This Is... by James Miley. I highly recommend this for any fan of classical, jazz, trumpet, or piano music.
