CONTRAMANO
This band is really worth checking out and supporting if your into substantial and energetic music. These guys have a fresh sound, with awesome arrangements and interesting lyrics. On stage their character really comes out. The singer, who is also a classical trained cellist, takes his time to walk through the crowd and create hype with his out of this world performances. And to top it off they are excellent musicians. My favorite tune is "I'm crying for you Argentina." It paints a vivid picture of where the musicians' points of view come from.
just straight-up fantastic
I came across this band while writing an article on rock en español. While it's great that that label can draw people to them, it doesn't describe what they do at all. About 70% of their lyrics are in English, and they don't really draw on latin instrumentation. Instead, their influences include Pink Floyd, U2, the Police and Manu Chao. The lyrics still express an the expat/immigrant sensibility, but with a sense of humor and in ways everyone can relate to. Their music is really fun to listen to, their videos are hilarious, and their live shows are a trip. My new favorite band.
