iTunes Review
Anyone with a mega-successful older sibling could appreciate Janet Jackson’s dilemma in the mid-‘80s. But not only did she rise to the challenge presented by brother Michael’s Thriller and Bad, she concocted one of female r&b’s most forceful statements on this 1986 album, securing both her own artistic identity and a measure of superstardom in the bargain. Teaming with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the potent hit-making team who’d served their own apprenticeship backing Morris Day in Prince protégés The Time, Janet’s efforts saw five of the albums nine tracks go Top Ten: “Control,” “Nasty,” “What Have You Done For Me Lately,” “When I Think of You” and “Let’s Wait A While.” Set to the Minneapolis-bred funk-pop grooves of Jam and Lewis, Jackson’s riffs on the titular subject matter ranged from a fervent, feminist-bred sense of personal responsibility to “Let’s Wait..”’s unlikely pleas for sexual abstinence. Never mind her family’s daunting pop heritage, this one’s about the sister doing it for herself.

Where it all began
The funk, the grooves, the energy, the sass, the original miss independent, only Janet Jackson (with Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam) could still have us bumping to her beats some 20 years later! CONTROL is the ultimate album that represents what Pop/R&B/Dance music was like in the 80's! The hits just keep coming in this dynamo of an album, Control, Nasty, What Have You Done For Me Lately, The Pleasure Principle, When I Think of You, Let's Wait Awhile, and Funny How Time Flies are all classic cuts from the CONTROL album. Don't be a hater be a congratulater and purchase this oustanding album.
