So sad

Kevin is trying too hard these days. He complains about CCM and then arrogantly exalts this endeavor as a great work of art. Really, Kevin? It comes to this? So sad. This remix album (and the original album by title) is nothing more than a self deluded, self gratifying attempt at musical genius and is a waste of God-given talent (nobody denies what Kevin Max is capable of, or at least was at one point in time). The music is horrible, the lyrics come across as nonsensicle meanderings, and at best are incredibly cheesy ("ding dong the witch is dead", "get on yer bike...silly rabbit don't you know that tricks are for kids").

Sometimes artists try so hard to avoid the "pop culture, public consumtion" tag and praise themselves for being "edgy"and "true to who I am" and expect applause and adulation in return. Well, watch the sales of this and its impact on the musical landscape and see what the public thinks. I have a feeling it won't be much.

Please return to the former things, Kevin. We know, we know, you're not in DC Talk anymore (although the veracity of your former bandmates have proven much more relevant these days than the "cotes d'Ámor" musical masterpiece). But can we at least have the Imposter back?

No idea...

Kevin, we'd like to hear new material. Your remixes of remixes, some of which have been recycled onto two and three albums now, are old news. And don't sound that good either. It's starting to feel like a business from your end, not so much art anymore. You have amazing talent, please refocus it and share some freshly inspired new stuff soon.

Review

Kevin gets Five stars in my book. I love his unusual style and 99.9% of his songs. Kevin has the most unusual voice range I have ever heard and there is no replacing him. We need more Kevin!!! "keep up the excellent work Kevin!"

Often perceived as the eccentric, attention-seeking member of the CCM trio DC Talk, Kevin Max grew up outside of Grand Rapids, MI. Formerly known as Kevin Smith, music played a vital part in his formative years. Max started singing at the age of four and remembers "being carted around to schools, churches, and radio programs." He attended college at Virginia's Liberty University, where he met fellow DC Talk members Toby McKeehan and Michael Tait. The three formed the band in 1987, merging the styles...
