A Pleasant Surprise
I had never heard of Ilan Rubin until he was announced as the next NIN drummer last week. NIN being my favorite band I looked him up on google and stubled upon this band where he wrote and played everything on the album. After listening to this album I realized just how talented Ilan is. Coup is a very impressive album and is better than many solo albums out there. There is not a bad song on here but my favorite tracks are: Time Erase, Tap Dancing In a Minefield, The Collapse.
Something New and Exciting
This record was recommended to me by someone in the music industry and I have to say I'm not dissapointed. It's really not "new", since it draws from a few noteable influences, but, by today's standards and what's happening in music at the moment; this is truly exciting. The album seems to carry a reucrring theme, but each song is has its own individuality. I would have to say that "Order Restored", "Take Control" and "Time Erase" stand out as the album's clear winners, but there isn't a weak song on the record. If you're looking for cookie-cutter music to follow what's popular, then don't buy this album. But, if your looking for something "new" and refreshing, then, by all means download it and enjoy it. These songs could quite possibly set the standards by which music will be judged in the future. And when you consider that all the music was composed and performed by one individual, it becomes all the more impressive. I found this out after doing a little research on the web. Enjoy!!
