Goosebump Test

Joshua James first came to my attention with a great story song called "FM Radio." Of these selections I just adore the acoustic version of "Crash This Train." His quavering voice combined with the deep sound of his acoustic guitar in the production, make this one of those songs that get past logic quickly and touch you deeply both emotionally and physically. The metaphor for the song breaks your heart as the melody and Joshua's voice literally change the air around you and cause your skin to prickle. This is the stuff of sonic transportation. Sometimes you don't need drums or loops or big frakin' production to move a listener. Like the great singer songwriters of past and current times, Joshua makes his mark by crafting songs of and for the heart and mind. Whatever song he's slingin' always check him out.

been waiting for this one...

I saw Joshua James play "Crash This Train" in NYC and have been listening to a version I had found videotaped on youtube. After seeing him play the song, I was struck hard by it, and have been looking for the song everywhere. I haven't been able to find another version of the song until now!! Just a killer song that says a lot. Glad to find "Crash This Train" on iTunes and I dig the new song "The Garden" as well. Nice surprise!

Joshua James is a great songwriter, but COME ON!!

I don't understand the enormous hubub about us leading Iraq toward apocalypse. We ARE winning the war, the surge IS working, and the Iraqi people ARE VOTING! Which would lead anyone with a grasp of common sense to believe that they WANT democracy, and so in turn WANT the American soldiers to finish the job they started. The message presented in "Crash This Train" is ridiculous to the point of fallacy. Still, Joshua James is my favorite (at least currently) songwriter in music today, so I won't wear out my welcome anymore. Enjoy the CD, the music is, of course, just as beautiful as always.
