iTunes Review

After three failed attempts to broaden its music and appeal to a crossover audience, Creatures of the Night returned Kiss to the thunderous heavy metal the true fans craved. The industry had undergone drastic changes since Kiss’s mid-‘70s heyday, but this 1982 comeback album proved that the band fit in easily within the ascending pop metal scene that it had helped to create. Ever the shrewd businessmen, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley pulled in outside help to aid their reintroduction into the pop music landscape. Future superstar Bryan Adams and his songwriting partner Jim Vallance are credited as co-writers on the stomping “Rock and Roll Hell.” Meanwhile, the speedy “Killer,” the moody ballad “I Still Love You,” and the splendidly lead-footed single “I Love It Loud” were all co-written by Vinnie Vincent, who would soon assume Ace Frehley’s role in the band. The album’s MVP is new drummer Eric Carr. His walloping, John Bonham-influenced sound brings an explosive bottom end to “Creatures of the Night,” “Keep Me Comin’,” and “War Machine.”

now I like all of Kiss the pop stuff the rock stuff the metal stuff, even the grunge stuff but this has to be the highest in my favorites. Kiss went from some very good pop songs to the best metal songs ever. These songs are powerful with the drums the guitars the bass the vocals they are all amazing and completly different from anything else. There is not one bad song on this album, get them all thats all I can say.

There are only 9 songs on this album, but they are some of the best that Kiss has ever recorded! There isn't a single bad song on Creatures Of The Night, which is quite a departure from the album (Music From The Elder) that preceded it. One of the things Kiss isn't known for is their ability to dabble in different styles of music, but if you listen to each of their albums you will see alot of progression. "Creatures" is no exception.
Eric Carr's drumming steals the show. One of the recording techniques used to achieve the thunderous sound of the drums was to set up microphones in the recording studio's bathroom, which was down the hall from the room where Eric was drumming, and mixing the echo into the recording.
"I Love It Loud" and "War Machine" are fan favorites from the album, but my favorite is "Keep Me Comin", a song with a great guitar riff, awesome Paul Stanley vocals, and an obvious sexual innuendo. "I Still Love You" proves that a ballad can be done while still retaining your balls!
Old school Kiss fans may not agree, but this is one of the best albums the band has ever made, if not THE best!

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Rooted in the campy theatrics of Alice Cooper and the sleazy hard rock of glam rockers the New York Dolls, Kiss became a favorite of American teenagers in the '70s. Most kids were infatuated with the look of Kiss, not their music. Decked out in outrageously flamboyant costumes and makeup, the band fashioned...
