Best Effort from Cold Cave

For me, this collection of songs is the best offering from Cold Cave. After this collection, the band issued a series of bright, crisp, pop-esque recordings which filled-out Cold Cave's public image in a pop fashion. Those recordings are nothing like this one here.

"Cremations" is one of the darkest, murkiest, "lo-fi-est," most intense albums I've ever heard, but beautiful for all of these same reasons. It is a collection of demos and one-off recording sessions, but with genius behind every wall of fuzz. The manner in which fuzz, feedback, and lo fi effects are implemented in these songs will sound to many ears like poor recording attempts from some kid's bedroom; the truth is entirely the opposite, in fact these effects were used intentionally to enhance the impact of each song.

Standout tracks: "Chrissie Sally," and "I've seen the future."

Too bad Cold Cave went a different route after these sessions. This body of work is so unique. If you are of a similar opinion, you may also enjoy bands/albums: Weekend/Sports, The Doomsday Device/Ultravioletman, Former Ghosts/Fleurs.

Eisold released Cold...
