Great stuff
Nice work! I have been enjoying Saint since 1986. This album is both incredibly raw and catchy. Saint write heavy songs that are both truely crunchy and memorable. There music and lyrics are burned into my mind (an excellent reason to listen to bands with positive themes) Not one poor quality song in 20 plus years. Each album is different while retaining a distinct Saint sound. The vocals on this album are very different from past records. I have to say that they work great for the new material. Personal thanks to them for continuing to entertain and encourage!!
They
They could do better.
Saint back in the day (mid-late 80's) was a pretty good straight-forward heavy metal band, one of my faves. But times have changed. I'm not saying they shouldn't keep their Priest-esque stylings present, but even the mighty Judas Priest have kept up with some of their contemporary peers (just listen to the Angel of Retribution CD that came out a couple of years ago).
This album starts off with a very nice, dark & heavy intro that serves as a great preface to the best song on the album IMO, "Half a Times Measure".
From there, it stays solid, but that's part of the problem...no getting outside the box a little. No experimentation or flirtation with elements that would be foreign or stretch the boundaries a bit for Saint. It's what you have to do to stay relevant. I'm not talking about selling-out your style (like what Metallica did after "And Justice For All"), I'm just talking about branching out a little to keep up with the competition.
If your're looking for more of the "Times End" stuff with punchier production, then this will be great for you. For me, I just wish Saint would stretch themselves some more and put out something with a freshness that starts with Track One and carries through the end of the album instead of kinda sticking-to-the-formula. Recruit another guitarist, a younger guy to bring in some fresh ideas or a different approach to writing-you might be surprised how much it'll add to the depth of your songs and energize your fans and your own performance.
This Saint Album is Great!
Thanks Saint! I love this album! iTunes, please get the rest of the Saint library!
