iTunes Review

Domestic abuse has been the perennial fodder of TV talk shows, but Pat Benatar made it the unlikely centerpiece of many of the songs that built her career. Powered by a powerful, often overtly melodramatic voice that belied her diminutive frame, Benatar's 1980 sophomore album became her commercial breakthrough on the strength of tracks like the snarky double-entendre "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," the quasi-feminist demand "Treat Me Right," and cautionary "You Better Run," songs that also earned her heavy exposure in the early days of the MTV era. The urgent "Hell is For Children" reinforces the album's often bleak emotional undercurrent, its goth-pop conceits working better than Benatar's largely pedestrian cover of Kate Bush's first hit, "Wuthering Heights."

An absolutely amazing album. Pat Benatar is overlooked and under rated, she is the greatest female vocalist in rock history...period. Hell is for Children is a masterpiece and Wuthering Heights is the greatest female vocal ever.
