iTunes Review
CSN were known for their harmonies. So it’s plenty revelatory and a bit odd to hear these songs pulled away from their natural strengths and stripped to their essential core. “Music Is Love” features Crosby, Nash and Neil Young, but most of these well known tracks are presented in bare acoustic guitar or piano renditions with the songwriter handling the lead vocal that the others would eventually use to sculpt their accompaniment. Crosby’s “Almost Cut My Hair” and “Déjà Vu” are five and six minutes of dark moods and brooding acoustic guitar chords, while Stills’ “You Don’t Have To Cry” is merely a minute and a half of a brighter time. There’s nothing unexpected here, no sudden breaks of character. This isn’t the sound of young, inexperienced songwriters trying out new, untested ideas but merely seasoned pros providing professional blueprints to take to heart. “Long Time Gone” between Crosby and Stills is the one cut that adds a complete band arrangement with percussion but it cries out for the yet uncommitted Nash to join the ensemble to complete the picture.

Lovely
by June1909Listen here: Chances are if you're a big fan of these guys you know that its in the looseness and unpredictability of the live performance where they shine. The songs never sound the same twice. I don't typically like their studio work as much as live. This demo is nice because its clean and spontaneous too. Raw, yes - self indulgent, unproduced...? come on, man! It's beautiful. It does not sound at all sloppy as the term "demo" might imply. Buy it now.
Beautifully Basic
by The critic from DinsmoreThis gives an insight to the raw talent of the trio...and what a difference a producer can make crafting a song. Great songs in their early construction. Worth a listen.
CSN = Acoustic Rock
by phylobeansThese guys, playing this music called me to learn to play guitar and harmonize with other kids at Madison High School in the early 70's. Hearing it mostly raw and un-adorned with studio stuff is like hearing them play it just for you in your living room. It doesn't get much better than that.
