iTunes Review
Crossing the Rubicon is a curious title for these Swedish popsters’ third release considering that it offers more of the catchy new wave-inspired grooves they’ve been crafting since their 2003 debut, Living In America. Still, that semantic point aside, their commitment to their established sound should please their many fans. Led by the powerful and earnest vocals of Maja Ivarsson, Crossing the Rubicon gets started with a bang with “No One Sleeps When I’m Awake” and “4 Songs & a Fight,” a winning pair of hook-heavy tunes that feature a double blast of chunky guitar riffs and shimmering synth lines. Elsewhere, good melodies abound especially on the big, fist-pumping choruses in “My Lover,” “Midnight Sun,” and “Home Is Where Your Heart Is.” The thumping rhythm section is particularly good on this release and the glossy production further plays up the driving dance-floor beats. If you’re looking for fun electro-pop with some punch, Crossing the Rubicon will get you moving.

Eh.
I was expecting more from this album. I like it but it's just not my fav. from them. When I first listened to this album it didn't hit me like BOOM this is The Sounds. Instead it sounds more like a watered down version of The Sounds. It's really soft compared to the last two which were way more fun. The synth is barely used unlike before. The lyrics are kinda lacking this time around. Overall this album just makes me want more instead of making feel fulfilled. I was hoping this album would turn out to be so much more than it is. Overall it's still a good album, just not their greatest. It also grows on you very quickly.
The Sounds have 'Crossed The Rubicon'
The Sounds have done it again with a beautifully crafted third album. With songs like 'Dorchester Hotel' and '4 Songs & a Fight' you really get to see what this band is about. It cohesively follows the band's first two albums perfectly like a puzzle. This album is a must have for music lovers.
Quirky, Yet Refreshing
Ok, I had an 80's flash back. Take the voice of Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders and mix here with some 80's pop with a dash of punk and you have The Sounds. Filled with fun and flavor the songs get under your toes and makes them start tapping. No One Sleeps is one of my favorites on the album as well as the moody Midnight Sun. Buy it, listen to it a few times and I'm sure you'll make this group the standard for your itunes genius menu wanting more of groups who sound like The Sounds.
