iTunes Review
Like her husband Steve Earle, Allison Moorer was a powerful country singer who could never be comforted with all that Nashville had to offer. On her 2010 album, Crows, Moorer settles into a gorgeous adult-contemporary setting where her shimmering voice can add a simple grace and elegance to these songs of love and hope. “Easy In the Summertime” has a warm, soothing flow. “Still This Side of Gone” holds a sadness underneath its elevating piano chords. “Like the Rain” retains the country harmonies while its melody and arrangement explores its own sweet, sophisticated texture. Moorer learned quite a bit from her collection of covers, Mockingbird, where Nina Simone and Patti Smith received equal coverage. That adventure gave Moorer an insight into her own restless soul. She never comes close to rocking out, but the extra spring in her step for “Sorrow (Don’t Come Around)” shows her attitude is not about to take the backseat to anyone. Even the sad songs retain a defiant pride and determinism.
Customer Reviews
Allison Moorer
Allison is an absolutely incredible artist. Her warm unique voice is like honey. This album is a little depressing to listen to as she does not seem to be in a good place. One of the most unfair stories in music is Allison's because she should have been a superstar. She is someone you should get to know through this release and her entire body of work.
Stunning Work....Still
Allison has long been a favorite artist of mine since her debut release, Alabama Song. The Nashville-heavy sound of her first three studio LP's had some real magic spread across them. Her roots-ier work on The Duel, Getting Somewhere, and Mockingbird, though sprinkled with a number of gems, was at times a little less even. Crows is a full-frontal assault of excellent songwriting, arranging, and performance. I love every song on this album. Her rich, soulful voice resonates through every song, and this may be my favorite all-round album of hers. This album is a truly magical melding of her very best qualities. As another reviewer pointed out, Allison's lack of popular fame is one of the crimes of music. She is an honest artist, and thankfully she continues to make music.
A Graduated Girl..
"The Broken Girl" is a sadly upbeat song from Allison Moorer who's older sister is singer-songwriter Shelby Lynne..
Both are very talented each to her own sound complex and viewing it by herself from the sidelines of life...
The unspoken tragedy of their parents passing from a murder-suicide and at 13..I'm sure your view of the world changes you hear it through some of their songs but you also hear strength..
"Goodbye To The Ground" is all hers and we see another side yet..
Both have risen above and that smooth honey voice of Allison's runs through her music..
Every song here might not be for you..
but her talent is undeniable..
