Album Review

Twiztid’s fourth dip into the vaults is — unsurprisingly — a set for the hardcore fan; the kind of fan who can’t get enough and doesn’t mind some ragged edges. Here there are plenty, with numerous tracks coming off as half-baked ideas, but sometimes the lunacy works, like the opening joke “Magic Magic Ninja,” a perfect example of both dumb and fun juggaloo chanting. A jumbled set of remixes and collaborations fills in the rest while the usual Psychopathic guest stars, running from Boondox to Insane Clown Posse, makes this a release any hatchet-wielding fan must consider. Speaking of which, concerned parents should direct their attention to the front cover art, which promises “Flagrant Hand Gestures and How to Properly Swing an Axe!”

ditziwT is the tihS!!!!! But....

Twiztid has always been sick n I sleep, breath, n tattooed till death. And they have always been ahead of the game but this cryptic collection is weak and sad... Other than 3 new tracks i've had all the other songs for years!!!! It's a cheap move to sell this cd with minimal work to make you spend your money! Do yourself favor and only cop the new tracks n wait for Twiztid next full album I know I will be.

Not bad

Cryptic Collection 4 isn't a bad album. Several of the tracks can be found on other albums, so I don't feel this is as strong of an album as previous Cryptic Collections. CC 1 and 2 were composed of unreleased/VERY hard to find tracks, 3 seemed to be more of an album made with no theme or direction in mind, CC 4 is all over the place from funny tracks to the typical darker side of Twiztid. A good mix of vibes from the duo can be found on this album. For the intents and purposes of Cryptic Collection it's welcomed into the Psychopathic library. Not a home-run hit in my book, but easily worth the $10. There's something in it for everybody. There's enough "new" material to sustain the American Psycho Tour launching on 9/26 and running through 10/31. Check out a show if it comes to your town. They never disappoint with their live performances. Hope you enjoy the album!!

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Protégés of the Insane Clown Posse, the Detroit-area Caucasian rap duo Twiztid based their act on a similarly theatrical, outrageous, makeup-heavy image and an obsession with serial-killer horror films. Jamie Madrox and the Monoxide Child cast themselves as psychotic axe murderers on their 1998 debut album, Mostasteless, which was reissued with new artwork and extra tracks a year later in the wake of ICP's rise to national notoriety. Twiztid's second album, Freek Show, was released on Halloween 2000...
