INTENSE JOURNEY

Once you free your mind and realize that this is not the Mars Volta, nor that this is the direction the Volta are heading, you can open mindly enjoy this album. F*****G sick. Dissonant? yes. Grating? yes. Scary? yes. Beautiful? yes. I would love to write about the backround of this album, but by looking at the other reviews, this has already been done. A guitarist, a drummer, and a bass player are the foundation. The Bass Synth adds an incredible amount of depth. Cedrics vocals are amazing. To me, his lyrics hit me in the heart. They are harsh and dissonant, yes, but they are well though out (in my opinion). I think, after listening to the album all the time, that Cedrics work here wil be underestimated, as Omar laid down some hard s**t for him to track over. There really is no exact pattern in each song, making the task even more difficult. Simply put, i have listened to this album sober and stoned out of my mind. Listening to it stoned is pretty f*****g crazy. As far as people bashing Omar for the lame name and "indulgent" cover, im sure that the boys in the band came up with the idea. I'm sure Omar wasnt like "lets call the group my new group and have a head shot of my on the cover." Im pretty sure it was consentual. All the people in the band are pretty righteous. Excited for the future.

Very Good...

A very good album from ORL. I appreciate the talent of Zach HIll, even though I prefer the balance and power of John Theodore and Thomas Pridgen (sometimes I feel Zach Hill take the jazzy-funk vibe out of a song that was accentuated with John Theodore). I have only listened to this album once in its entirety, but here are some highlights: 1. Tuberculoids is a great opening song. 2. Half-Kleptos kicks a*s. 3. Noir is one of the best Omar songs I've heard in awhile (this will be the most underrated song on the album) 4. Cedric's lyrics on this album are classic... This album is very good and will be a nice listen in between Volta albums...

El Grupo Nuevo ( The New Group) is Right..!!

This album is a complete departure from anyting Omar has released so far. Though it contains elements of ATDI and The Mars Volta; Hella and Zach Hill himself is represented with twitching and stuttering, blast beats. Omar did the right thing seperating this from his large body of solo works. Cryptomnesia is the first in a trilogy from this "New Band", and it leaves me salivating for more..!!
