iTunes Review
From hippie enchantress to AOR hitmaker to enduring pop icon, Stevie Nicks has gone through a host of permutations since the mid-‘70s. Crystal Visions (2007) is the latest and best attempt to anthologize her 30-plus year recording output. After her fruitful stint with Fleetwood Mac, Nicks matured into an astute rock craftsperson, able to grow beyond her folk/country beginnings and adapt to the trends of the 1980s and ‘90s. Whatever her adjustments in style, her lyric obsessions with magic (“Rhiannon,” ”Sorceress”) and romantic disappointment (“Dreams,” “I Can’t Wait”) have remained constant. And if her voice has lost some of the waif-like delicacy of her early years, it’s gained a deep, throaty luster with time, as her cover of Led Zep’s “Rock And Roll” shows. From her duets with Tom Petty (“Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”) and Don Henley (“Leather And Lace”) to live symphony-backed versions of “Landslide” and “Edge Of Seventeen,” Crystal Visions gives a sampling of the height and breadth of her music. The absence of original Fleetwood Mac tracks is an obvious weak spot here, but as an overview of Nicks as singer, songwriter and image-shifting celebrity, this collection more than satisfies.

This woman has so many memoriable songs and hits that it's hard to ignore the ones that aren't on here.
I absolutely love this album. Her live versions of songs such as Rhiannon and Landslide are terrific. So is the new version of Dreams, and the old version of Silver Springs. However, Rock N Roll and two versions of Edge of Seventeen reak of lack of confidence. It's wasted space, especially for her.
She's really separated herself from the pack as far as icon status, so one would think she would put everything she could on this album. Not true. A lot of great songs missing.
I do appreciate, however, the new songs from Trouble in Shangri La. Sorceror and especially Planets of the Univers. They touch a real nerve.
However, I still feel that this is not her true best. Although, it's a hell of a lot better than 99.9% of the greatest hits out there.
It's sorta like Nicks has created her own genre. There is no one like her at all in the history of rock n roll, except maybe Jim Morrison.
it's all good but . . . .
by LynnieKThey overlooked Street Angel, which is reportedly 1 of Stevie's least favorite albums - there is a secret gem on that album, Kick It - may be 1 of the most rockin' songs Stevie has done. I love it!! Check it out - you'll love it, too. I guarantee it :>~ !!!
