Customer Reviews
CSNY are Legends!!!
Sorry but Neil Young doesn't have to be an American to have opinion about America. This administration is the worst in American history and you want to launch a protest against Neil Young?!?! Any album that has a song called "Let's impeach the President" gets a 5 star review from me. Long live CSNY's music and message!!!!
A towering achievement
This is a priceless audio document of CSNY’s 2006 Freedom of Speech tour, with the focus squarely on Neil Young’s “Living With War” album. As a live album, it may well be no better or worse than most, but as an expression of spirit it has no equal. Whether Neil holds American citizenship or not is irrelevant; he is a citizen of the world, and as such he cries out for peace and against the lies that lead us. Neil Young said what the youth of America had not the courage or the wherewithal to say. Beyond that, the musical sensibilities of CSNY here, while rough-hewn, are impeccable. I only wish “Flags of Freedom” had been included. Cheer or jeer; just listen.
Great Music and Reflection of America
This album is a little more than an obligatory Live album from a tour. It’s a document of where America was at in ’06. Leaving the boos and cheers in during “Let’s Impeach the President” shows the divide the country was in at the time and even in our purgatory, lame duck status right now still is. Plus these guys can still play. Over Neil Young’s career he has become something of a John Coltrane type in expressing himself on guitar. Stephen Stills always impresses me and I think kicks it up a notch here. Crosby and Nash can provide harmonies that are seldom heard anywhere in today’s music. So the whole mix is well worth it. Now to the idea that Neil Young can’t have an opinion because he hasn’t changed a piece of paper saying he is no longer a Canadian: his kids have registered for selective service in the U.S. , he is married to an American, had paid taxes here for decades (he'll probably pay more than I will in my lifetime), with his wife he has help found a school here to help kids with severe speech and physical impairments, and has done more for the American farmer via Farm Aid than a lot of Presidents have. So if that makes him more Canadian than American, I would beg Canada to send a few more like him down.
