Transcendent, Soothing, and Romantic: Cuba
Ferrer and Ruben Gonzalez top the list of artist. They remind us of music's ability to transcend the menial as in 'El Platanal.' The listener is invited to enjoy (gozar) his friend Barltolo's plantation. The invitation comes from a lonely friend who wants to enjoy it and dance with a female companion. Gonzalez' sound in 'Mil Congas' is soothing like tropical rain but also invites you to dance. A great surprise was Omara Portuondo's 'Tres Palabras' beautiful ballad. It will awaken the romantic in you.
