Fantastic EP

Dave Sasscer is a wonderful songwriter and singer, and the songs on this EP simply exemplify his musical and emotional range. He is a melody and harmony craftsman, and he uses beautiful imagery and language.
I really enjoy Cuenta de la Porta del Sol particularly Ella and Aguadilla.
Brilliant stuff Dave!

Solid Collection of Cuentos

There's little doubt where Dave Sasscer got his inspiration for these five gems. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, thus easily relate to each and everyone of these songs. However, what makes this album so good is that you don't have to have lived in Puerto Rico at all to enjoy the heart and soul of Sasscer's music. I don't think that I can choose a favorite song in the bunch because each one is so unique and appealing in it's own way. The catchiness factor abounds and you'll know it when you find yourself whistling or humming the choruses as you're out and about. I'm looking forward to more musical creations by Sasscer, especially one that might pay homage to my hometown of Mayagüez. Wink, wink. Keep up the good work Dave Sasscer!

Opens another door....

Puerto Rico is such a multicultural environment, it should come as no surprise that this music, written and led by someone who grew up there, is touched by influences as diverse as Jamaica, New York , and California...the pleasant surprise is how comfortably it fits together. It is not salsa, but rather pop rock, bathed in a unique Latino take on contemporary sounds.

These love songs to places (named) and people (not) are sung in Spanish, but the sounds and rhythms and sentiments will be universally understood, and likely appreciated, by fans of good melodies and well-crafted arrangements regardless of their geographic orientations.

From the peppy passions that inform 'Ella' to the psyco-darkness of 'Todos Reconocen' a satisfyingly wide swath of territory is covered, even as the over all atmosphere marches resolutely straight down the path of pop. And the chorus to 'Aguadilla', is so flat out gorgeous it should be used by the tourism department, since it will probably draw people to the city on its own.
