Album Review

Static X's sixth album, Cult of Static, finds the nu-metal veterans steadfastly refusing to change their stripes, and why should they? As they say in the album's title, Static X have a cult that enjoys their adherence to all things that were nu in the '90s: riffs that grind instead of groove, merciless mechanical rhythms, vague drowning synths, all dressed with barking Cookie Monster vocals. Static X don't develop their music as much as they hone it, concentrating on its barest essentials, then delivering it with precision and little flair. This leaves little room to lure new listeners, but that's not the point of this sixth album — it's to serve the needs of the Cult, and it does just that.

IM AMAZED! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG AND HERE IT IS!

Holy Crap, is all I can say. Static-X is back. Everybody said after hearing Stingwray that the cd wasn't going to be better then Cannibal. I thought the opposite, this is as good or better then Cannibal. I don't have it yet, but I listened to the whole cd on free.nap ster.com and it is amazing. Lunatic - (9/10) Good opening track love the solo. Z28 - (10/10) Probably my favorite song off of it right now. Its got good riffs. Terminal - (9.5/10) Kinda one of the more catchier songs on here but still good. Hypure - (9.9/10) Really good riffs kinda catchy. One of the better tracks on here. Tera-Fied - (9/10) Pretty good he doesn't sing till after about a minute though and a half but the woman's voice isn't to bad. Stingwray - (10/10) Like the song alot. Its got a beat that u can tap your foot to and pretty good chorus. You Am I- (8.9/10) The most least appealing song on here to me right here. It's not bad I just can't go along with it well. Isolaytore - (9.5/10) Really cool song. Good vocals. Nocturnally - (9.5/10) I really like this song. Pretty good, it flows together good. Skinned - (9.5/10) Really cool song. I like the vocals and cool riffs. Grind 2 Halt - (9/10) One of the lengthier songs. Really cool riff and the vocals sound good. The drums match with the guitar making a good feel to the song. All in all a good cd. If you noticed I gave the songs high ratings because the cd is amazing. Static-X has done it again.

i'm on the fence for this one.....

nothing really stands out here. static-x is my favorite band but this album just seems kind of rushed. excellent vocals, but a slow tempo really takes away from the sound. this is my least favorite static-x album, but it's still a decent one.

Not Bad

I'm not a big Static-X fan but this would have to be my favorite cd by them, it's just awesome.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Static-X's roots trace to the Midwest, where vocalist/guitarist Wayne Static grew up in Michigan and drummer Ken Jay in Illinois. They ended up in Chicago separately and met at the record store where Jay worked, introduced to one another by Smashing Pumpkins vocalist Billy Corgan. Static and Jay decided to head west to California and start up a new band. Shortly after their arrival, Osaka native Koichi Fukada responded to the duo's ad and became their new guitarist, as well as programmer. Bassist...
