iTunes Review

Seth Haley’s day job as a designer is telling — and not just because his first proper Com Truise release is an early candidate for record sleeve of the year. Haley’s art background also shows up in his songwriting, with beats that are built from the bottom up and an attention to detail that’s lacking in many of today’s bedroom producers. Sure enough, the former DJ spent about a decade making music under different aliases (Sarin Sunday, SYSTM, Airliner) before settling on the shimmering, genre-jumping sound of Com Truise. More than just a byproduct of ‘80s nostalgia, the self-released Cyanide Sisters EP — now reissued/remastered with four bonus tracks that hint at the neon-hued direction of his forthcoming album — is as diverse as the 12-inchers that crowd Haley’s New Jersey apartment. So while everything seems to glow like an old, Nintendo-tethered TV, the synth sculptor also slips in slight layers of acid techno (the wormy analog waves of “BASF Ace”), dubstep (the wobbly baselines of “Tripyra”), moonlit soft rock (the bedside guitar loops of “Norkuy”), and morose, New Order-schooled pop (“Pyragony”).

Music for Robots

Com Truise is a true electronic music pioneer. This album will be on repeat. 5 stars

From Hawaii w/Love

Pretty sure Im gonna punch my brother in the nuts for telling me about this album because it is really good... Seth, I had no idea you were this rad! I will be spreading this music all over Hawaii and Rockin' out in my truck all summer long because of these new tunes. Much Aloha!

Nice sounding beep beep thump thumps!

Just listen to the first 20 seconds of Norkuy at high volume and see if you don't get goosebumps. You will, I'm sure. Very unique, head-nodding beats throughout. The album has just the right amount of abstract sounds thrown in to keep it interesting, but not so much that it gets overwhelming.

Biography

Born: New York

Years Active: '00s, '10s

New York-born, New Jersey-based producer Seth Haley produced electronic music under a number of pseudonyms prior to establishing himself as Com Truise, an outlet for his “slow-motion funk” — warped, bass-heavy tracks that are sludgy but leavened with bright synthesizer melodies. His first release was the 2010 EP Cyanide Sisters, issued digitally through AMDISCS. Ghostly International gave it a proper release in January 2011 and added four tracks. Two months later, Ghostly issued Haley's Fairlight,...
