Album Review

Cyberpunk, Idol's attempt to restyle himself as a futuristic cyber-rocker, only works when he falls back on his effortlessly catchy guitar hooks and melodies of his past hits (the first single, "Shock to the System," for instance). Unfortunately, most of the album is padded with pretentious speeches, sampled dialog, and underdeveloped songs. Especially noteworthy is his techno-dance interpretation of the Velvet Underground's "Heroin" (featuring a repeated Patti Smith quote), which is one of the worst covers ever recorded.

Amazing music on this album

I was lucky when I first heard this album. I was 11 and didn't really know about Billy Idol's music yet. I was able to hear this album without bias.
I think people didn't understand what Idol was creating with this, and really wanted him to create his same old psuedo-punk-pop of the 80's they were used to hearing from him.

This album has always remained in my favorite albums of all time, so far ahead of his time... THANK YOU BILLY for creating this album.

This is an excellent Billy album

The haters just never understood. This album WAS ahead of it's time and it's a solid piece of artistic work.

i dont get why so many people hated this album

i thought it was pretty awesome to be honest. people should be more open and not think of something different or experimental or new as bad. one of the reasons i bought this cd in the first place was because i heard people hated it and wanted to see if they made sense. they didnt. it was interesting which was good in this case. anyways i gave it a chance and liked it. you should try it out. dont listen to critics. they dont like anything. just see for yourself and make your own decisions. its pretty good.

btw, theres really something like 19 or 20 songs on here. the missing ones are untitled and are basically just intros. but the good stuff is all there :)
