Album Review
Les Go's combination of western production techniques and covers with African harmonies is reminiscent of 1999's hit duo, Les Nubians. However, this group from the Ivory Coast has a sound all its own. Their lush vocals are backed by a series of acoustic and electronic instruments, though they could easily stand on their own. A cover of Hall & Oates' "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)," is intriguing, but the other music sung in their native language is equally compelling. Highlights include the opening track, "Siba," and the title track, "Dan Gna."

Hall and Oates remake is..
I was listening to this over the loudspeaker at Cost Plus while shopping around in there for some world wood furniture. At first, I thought what in the hell have they done to Hall & Oates? Then 3 and half minutes later i realized.. wow!.. cool. The straightened out groove is infectious and after non-english verses and bridges it drops into a "street" chant of "i can't go for that/dat". It really has an Earthy feel without being overproduced. The songwriting holds up strong through the melody and less through the lyrical content. (mostly because I don't speak the singers' language). I would be curious if the non-english is a translation of the original or do the words mean something altogether different?..
