iTunes Review
When was the last time a record really freaked you out, as in an auditory acid trip without the acid? Can’t remember? That’s fine; because you’ll have a hard time forgetting Dandelion Gum once it burrows its way into your subconscious, treating the poor little bugger like the host of some psychedelic parasite. Not just any psychedelic parasite, either. Try one that speaks through Air-y (the downtempo duo, not the stuff we breathe) analog installations and incoherent, yet incredibly lucid, paranoid android poetry. Flower power phrases like “We miss you in the summertime” and “I love the sunlight/You love the flowers,” all delivered in a disembodied monotone Daft Punk would appreciate. With band member names like Tobacco and Father Hummingbird, you’d think this was a harmless, imaginary soundtrack to Fraggle Rock: The Feature Film or something. Only it’s something much more sinister — something we’ll let you figure out once you’re caught up in a funnel cloud somewhere between Nico’s Chelsea Girl and Air’s Moon Safari.

Foxes and Moths and Black Super Rainbows! Holy Electronica Euphoria!
Uhhh...wow. After the Octopus Project, Black Moth Super Rainbow schools all other electronic bands. If you've just discovered there sticky, mulitcolored keyboardy goodness, start off with their songs, read this: Forever Heavy 10/10-The songs sounds heavy and then floats. Jump Into My Mouth and Breathe The Stardust 10/10-Lets all breathe stardust while listening to BMSR so we can numerate together. Melt Me 10/10-Theremin! My god it's crazy! Lollipopsichord 8/10-Sounds like a tooth drill got drunk. They Live In The Meadow 10/10-Souns like were walking backwards into a candy shop. Sun Lips 10/10-Foxxing! Rollerdisco 9/10-Groovy! Neon Syrup Fro The Cemetery Sisters 9/10- BMSR got a concussion. The Afternoon Turns Pink 9/10-I got sick of this song pretty quick but I digress, it's still great. When The Sun Grows On Your Tongue 10/10-Wolfy! Spinning Cotton Candy In a Shack Made of Shingles 10/10-If cotton candy is good for footy pajamas, can they dial a phone? Drippy Eye 10/10- Experimental be good for you. Lost, Picking Flowers In The Woods 10/10-Protect this from the rat armies, rainbow skies feels musical on you. Such a good song! Caterpillar House 10/10-Someone let the moth out a little to early. Wall of Gum 9/10-Sticky. Untilted Road Demo 10/10-Souns like a wired down verison of Spiracle (also by BMSR + The Octopus Project) Untitled 9/10-It's good enough to not have a name. 163 out of 170=96%, that's an A! A albums must be bought, so by Dandelion Gum!
Best of 2007
Wow. A cross between Tortoise, Cocteau Twins and Air does not completely describe Black Moth Super Rainbow's "Dandelion Gum", but it's close. This is an audio experience and by far the best album of 2007. When the Sun Grows On Your Tongue, Sun Lips, Rollerdisco, The Afternoon Turns Pink, Lollposicord, They Live In The Meadow, Forever Heavy and Drippy Eye are all great. Sun Lips is a perfect song. This music is art. Music that audibly projects images into the air (there's a reason they play small films at their live shows), these young ladies and gentlemen indeed create wonderful music.
Pure Dopamine
A single-minded, vocoder-addicted (Almost to T-Pain-like levels) band, but one that aims to perfect their sound. In a concept album that's a bit like the sunny upper side of the Liars' witch epic, They Were Wrong, So We Drowned, BMSR meld early Air and Boards of Canada to Stones Throw hip-hop breaks, with flashes of pop psychedelic acts like Beck and The Flaming Lips. Depite their sylvan image, a rapper could kill over these tracks, yet it's no wonder the Lips pulled them onto their recent tour. Get past the terrible cover, and listen with headphones. One of the best albums of 2007.
