Rocking Cowboys!!!

The Jackson Taylon band rocks!!! I just saw these guys as the opening band for Roger Creager and I loved every one of their songs. They're some hard rocking cowboys whose music reminds me of Waylon Jennings. Keep making good music.

yo

Fantastic Return To The Old Days Of Outlaw Country

After hearing the song "Dark Days" on my satelite radio (on it's Outlaw Country station), I had to give Jackson Taylor a listen. Luckily, iTunes had the album available for preview. As I listened to the songs, I knew that the album was a keeper. If you are tired of the bubble gum blather of today's "country" artists like I am, Jackson Taylor fills a void quite nicely. Upon first listen to the album, I thought immediately of two people: Waylon Jennings (no suprise here- Honky Tonk Heroes is one of my favorite Waylon songs and Taylor does a nice job honoring the original) and George Strait. Now, I realize that George Strait's music is not soon going to be confused with Outlaw Country, some of Taylor's vocals- especially on "Miles" and "Goodbye Morphine"- are strangely reminiscent of Strait. The highlight songs on the album are "Outlaws Ain't Wanted Anymore", "Dark Days", "Good Bye Morphine", "Tradin In Tomorrow", and the humorously wicked "Shallow Grave". On "Outlaws Ain't Wanted", Taylor laments Nashville's belief that "Your Whiskey drinkin', deep thinkin' ain't sellin this year." Well I, for one, am sold. Here's to the hope that Nashville (or what's left of it) lets some of these artists back into town without trying to change their sound.
