Album Review

Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz of Talking Heads fame gather together with friends and produce another episode in the Tom Tom Club saga — the sort of thing you'd get if you straightened Talking Heads out and hit the dancefloor, except more so. The result is an intelligent album you can dance to and be amused by, though it's not daffy — just full of humor. The cover of "You Sexy Thing" was one surprise here; the bagpipes on "Daddy Come Home" were even better.

The creative angst of the artists collectively known as Talking Heads could not be contained. My daughter, who first heard this nearly 15 years ago at 3 months of age, continues this review below. I like this album. It's fun. Nailed it!

extremely BAD

I hadn't listened to Tom Tom Club for many years, and thought it would be a nice departure to pick up one of their lesser known albums. I was impressed by Wordy Rappinghood and Genius of Love.

Well sad to say this should have gone straight to the bargain bin. Its B movie material, not inspired or even very well played. They absolutely mailed it in. If you have any respect for Tina and Chris in their other ventures *ala Talking Heads you will stay away from this one.

Tom Tom Club began life as a side project for Talking Heads members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, who adopted a light, tropical dance style that won them a gold album in Tom Tom Club in 1981 and a Top 40 single in "Genius of Love." They continued to make albums under this moniker between Heads production projects: Close to the Bone (1983) and Boom Boom Chi Boom Boom (1989).
