Anamanaguchi gets conceptual

First off, Anamanaguchi's "Dawn Metropolis" should be experienced along with synched visuals they created for it. They have the whole project streaming on their excellently designed website dedicated to it (dawnmetropolis.com). This album is a logical step forward from "Power Supply," although not in a different direction. It does not completely abandon the relentless hyperactive chiptune punk of "Power Supply," but expands on it. The production is top-notch, even experimenting with live drums on two of the tracks ("Danger Mountain" and "Mermaid") that sound thunderous yet don't get in the way of the NES tracks. The album builds tons of momentum with the first few tracks, which have melodies that will stick with you whether you like it or not, culminating in "Danger Mountain" which is a return to the hard, fast, powerful punk of the song "Power Supply." This allows them to create a bit of drama with the last three tracks. "Overarrow" is a bit darker, and prepares for the change of pace in "Tempest," which contains the first real break in the album. These tracks start to give the album a real story, and prepares us for the huge beast of a climax in "Mermaid." "Mermaid" is a first for Anamanaguchi on a number of levels. It was written by guitarist Ary Warnaar (as opposed to Peter Berkman), on a GameBoy (instead of NES), is the slowest and finally the longest Anamanaguchi track from any of their major releases. It contains several musical breaks, but instead of dragging in energy it builds tension and gradually adds dissonance all the way through the big release and decomposition into a noisy abyss of computers and guitars at the finale.

This is the pinnacle of the beauty of the NES

Imagine taking a dragonforce-style song, turning it 8-bit, subtracting the lyrics, and adding a strong dose of sunshine, and you have Anamanaguchi. Seriously, this is some of the most interesting music i have heard in a good while.

Very good songs!

They did a very good job on these songs. Making them seem more happy than some other 8 or 16BIT groups who just make it sound like a dreary emo video game. This makes me think of a mix between Sonic, Mega Man and Pokemon. 5/5 Stars!
