Album Review
Cannibal Ox and Company Flow may have played a more visible role in the Def Jux label's rise to critically acclaimed status in the early 2000s, but Aesop Rock also garnered a considerable amount of attention for the alt-rap label. He collaborates with producer Blockhead here, though Cannibal Ox fans will be happy to know that El-P produces one of this EP's tracks, "Nickel Plated Pockets." But for the most part, this EP is a showcase for Blockhead and Aesop. The two lay down quite a few tracks that are on a par with those found on Aesop's preceding full-length, Labor Days, making this EP a wonderful follow-up that should interest fans of the Def Jux establishment.

Insane.
I don't even like hip hop and this is so amazing. I listen to stuff like death metal and jazz fusion and even I can appreciate this. The lyrics are so interesting and deep & I don't even understand most of what it means - this is like shakespeare for hiphop. The beat is driving and unique, the lyrics are cerebral and complex, and I seriously wish this man was a millionaire just so more people could here this. This is a side of hiphop I never knew existed. 5 stars; no less.
One of the most innovative raps today
A masterpiece by one of the most important and sadly unknown M.C.'s of our time. Hip hip and any music for that matter is only worth listening to when it is real and emotional. This album is real and full of emotion. Aesop Rock exposes his soul for all to judge and is unafraid of what he says. This album starts off with a great and meaningful single in Daylight and never stops. Notice how Daylight and Night Light are the same song but with a different emotion. Alchemy is a track with a great beat and interesting lyrics. But the real achievement is the second part of Maintance. Listen to it all. Buy this album and educate yourself on what it is to be a master of an art.
genius loves company
Maybe one of the best trip hop albums ever made. "Daylight" and "Nightlight" are ingenius and need to be played over and over again to catch the parallel lines. There is a bonus track, in which aesop exposes his personal life like few rappers have, by describing how much his loved ones mean to him.
