Album Review
With the advent of romantic salsa, the arrangements seemed to be playing second fiddle to the aggressive arrangements that had made '70s salsa notorious. Apparently, Gilberto Santa Rosa preferred the romantic, tasteful material — but slower-paced charts. This album was well received by salsa fans, who at the time were immersed in the syrupy, overly romantic, watered-down styles that were highly popular at the time. Nevertheless, Santa Rosa knew something good when he saw it, and his improvisations here just don't seem to falter. In one of those rare instances where background vocalists are allowed to record with the singing bandleader's ensemble, Alex d'Castro sparkles with great prowess in Claudio Baglioni's "Un Poco Mas." ~ José A. Great album! Jerry Rivas, Tony Vega & Alex D'Castro on Coros.
This was his 3rd solo record. I started listening to Gilberto on his 2nd solo record "Keeping Cool". Since then I have been a fan. His early music has such a great sound. Coros by Jerry Rivas, Tony Vega and Alex D'Castro. Alex sings lead on "Un Poco Mas". Mario Ortiz was the musical director here. You can definitely hear his influence. Check out Mario's music if you like swinging, danceable salsa. Vocals by Anthony Cruz & Primi Cruz.
