Album Review

For some rock fans, it's hard to look past the ghoulish masks and costumes that the gentlemen (and gentlewoman) of Lordi hide behind. But if you dig a bit deeper into one of their albums, you'll discover that the band certainly can whip up a hook and a scream-a-long chorus, as evidenced by several standouts throughout their 2008 release, Deadache. As a follow-up to 2006's The Arockalypse (and not counting their silly horror movie, 2008's Dark Floors), Deadache follows the same game plan — anthemic heavy metal that favors studio sheen over grit, and throws a surprise melody or two your way when you least expect it. For the sonic proof, check out such standouts as the album's lead-off single, "Bite It Like a Bulldog" (a song title that Lemmy Kilmister undoubtedly wishes he came up with), "Dr. Sin Is In," and "Girls Go Chopping." Of course, you won't be discovering a landmark metal album with Deadache, but for fans of melodic, anthemic, and/or theatrical metal, it's certainly worth inspecting. Overall, a downright gory good time.

The Best...Again

After the last album I'd thought Lordi had reache dthe pinnacle of there career. It was an awesome album, thundering songs you could listen to time and time again. Now, with this relase, I realize how wrong I was. And thank God these guys just get better and better and better! All hail Lordi!

Lordi Steps It Up a Notch

Lordi definately creates an excellent vibe on this album and as usual their lyrics are always interesting. A very solid effort. I like Monsters Keep Me Company and The Rebirth of the Countess myself.

Kept Going Strong

I don't care what you're definition of "Metal" is, this music is great. This album ranks up there with its predecessors in greatness. It's certainly not junk... And dude, attacks like that on any kind of musical performer/group just aren't cool. What's "good" and "bad" is relative. If you really don't like the music, you should complain to people who agree with you, rather than where all the fans will see it. This just isn't the place, man.

Biography

Formed: Finland

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

With their operatic heavy metal and monster-movie stage persona, Lordi seemed a most unlikely choice to represent their native Finland in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. So just imagine how many jaws hit the floor when the group not only claimed top honors, but also earned the most points in the venerable event's history. Vocalist Tomi Petteri Putaansuu, aka Mr. Lordi, assembled Lordi in 1996 in Stockholm, Sweden, following a concert headlined by his favorite band, Kiss. After recruiting guitarist...
