This one never gets dusty...

If I were ever to be stuck on a deserted island and had to choose 10 albums, Dear 23 would be one of my first choices. There are certain albums that I just seem to always come back to and this is one of them. It never fails to reveal a new subtlety and nuance that makes the overall experience fresh each time I listen. What is especially amazing lyrically is that as I go through life experiencing different events, the words continue to ring true. Not many bands can inspire an angst filled teen and continue to be relevant to a 31 year old married guy! A must listen for everyone.

This is the greatest album by the most underrated band... ever.

With a distinct lean towards the powerful pop of The Hollies and Big Star with a heaping helping of bombastic guitars and breathtaking arrangements, The Posies "Dear 23" was more than I could ever have hoped it would be. The production done by John Leckie (Dukes Of Stratosphere, etc) certainly solidified the albums place amongst the greatest albums ever. The team of Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow continue on to this day as one of the most influential song writing duo's. Buy this, and all Posies records. You won't be disappointed.

Excellent and unheard of

Rob Leckie, Brit-pop producer extraordinaire (The Stone Roses, The Verve, etc.), produced this Posies CD which gives it a softer British feel absent in other Posies CDs. This CD is the reason we ever herd "I could Dream All Day" from the subsequent, and far less enjoyable Frosting on the Beater. Dear 23 got listeners' attention because it is such a great pop record start to finish. But as so often happens, what they gave us after Dear 23 never remotely measured up to its magnificence (think the Verve's schlocky Urban Hymns getting American air-play after the stellar and ground-breaking A Storm In Heaven and A Northern Soul). The early 90s yielded some fantastic music and this CD is no exception. I highly recommend it.

The Posies were one of the most popular power pop bands of the '90s; along with other revivalists like Matthew Sweet and Teenage Fanclub, they helped update the classic power pop sound for the alternative age, marrying bright, British Invasion-style melodies and harmonies to loud, grungy guitars and quirky lyrics. The Posies were centered around the partnership of guitarists/vocalists/songwriters Jonathan Auer and Ken Stringfellow, who began recording songs together in Auer's Bellingham, WA, home...
