Not to be missed!
From Birmingham, Alabama, Act of Congress is one of the best acoustic bands to come along in recent years. While they are deeply influenced by Nickel Creek, they produce strikingly refreshing and original acoustic music with influences from bluegrass, folk, classical and rock all seeping into their music. The playing is near flawless --they never step on eachother musicaly and the result is a real treat -- lovely instrumental touches that blend perfectly and just bring a smile to your face. AOC are equally at home playing driving bluegrass one moment, and slower deliberate songs the next. Production of this CD is top-notch. From beginning to end, Declaration is deeply satisfying. You get the feeling that AOC really put their heart into every note and are just having tons of fun making music. Highlights include the contemplative “In The Middle”, and “I Disagree” which features the dobro. The hilarious “Five Minutes of Fame” is a pickin’ tour de force featuring great ensemble playing. If you don’t like the lush harmonies and songwriting of “She Knows Her Way Around” and “The Nature of Things” then just turn in your instrument now and throw away all your CD’s. “The Bear” and “Chance Meeting” are instrumentals that not to be missed either. Highly recommended.

Young, talented, and in perfect harmony; Act of Congress is a band that no fan of music should pass up. Their clean lyrics and fresh homegrown sound are a treat for the ears. And for any fan of Nickel Creek, let me say now that these guys (and gal) might give them a run for their money in a few years. If you find yourself enjoying the sounds of Act of Congress then you should also do a search for Adam Wright's (AoC's front man) solo work.

This is an absolute work of art from a band that will definitely be heard. The tension, vocality, and meaning of the lyrics on top of the delicately played stringed instruments are an absolute wonder. Amazing musicianship and engineering. Keep listening---you'll find more and more to uncover.
