iTunes Review

As Judas Priest continued their streak of crossover success, they found new ways to keep their patented brand of high-octance metal raw and rude. Tipper Gore singled out “Eat Me Alive” in her crusade against objectionable lyrical content, but in truth, the song’s incendiary guitar solos (courtesy of synergetic duo K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton) are far more lascivious than written words could ever hope to be. “Freewheel Burning” is one of the band’s finest blitzkrieg assaults, but even when the band slows down they refuse to bow to the insipidness of the power ballad. In what could be considered their doom rock trilogy, Priest maintains ferocity even as the tempo moves from slow (“Some Heads Are”) to slower (“Night Come Down”) to slowest (“Heavy Duty”). Following the mass success of Screaming For Vengeance, it was up to Priest to represent metal’s core values to a mainstream audience, and as its title underscores, Defenders of the Faith makes good on that promise.

A powerhouse of force

This album is great from start to finish. "The Sentinel" is the best song on here. The duel soloing of Glen and KK on this track is so mindblowing. "Rock Hard Ride Free" is an athem for heshers everywhere. "Freewheel Burning" is as fast and furious as songs come. Rob sings at 1000 rpm on this song. This was the follow up to "Vengence" and once again Priest delieverd with an aggressive in your face album that should be owned by anyone who claimes to like metal. All hail the brilliance that is JUDAS PRIEST!

Metal Masterpiece

I'm gonna be honest, this is probably the best Judas Priest album out there. People seem to regard British Steel or Screaming for Vengance as their best, but in my opinion, this album and Painkiller just seem to stand out as one of the greatest feats in heavy metal history. Defenders of the Faith ranges from the popular 80s side of Priest (Some Heads are Gonna Roll), to their heaviest, underrated metal hits (tracks 1-4). Glenn Tipton and KK Downing show their best work on this album, throwing 100 mph solos back and forth with ease, as Rob Halford screams at least an octave above the average human range like it's noone's business. This album isn't just a jewel, it's an entire treasure trove of thrash-happy, in-your-face, scream-your-head-off heavy duty (no pun intended) metal. If you're an aspiring Priest listener, start your collection here, and prepare yourself for one wild album! ROCK ON!!! \m/

DOF

This is a great album that rocks from start to finish. Each song bites your head off with powerful riffs and lighting solos. Even the slower song "Night Comes Down" rocks hard. If you do not own DOF, I highly advise you to snag this album, for it cleary represents one of Priest's best records.

Judas Priest was one of the most influential heavy metal bands of the '70s, spearheading the New Wave of British Heavy Metal late in the decade. Decked out in leather and chains, the band fused the gothic doom of Black Sabbath with the riffs and speed of Led Zeppelin, as well as adding a vicious two-lead guitar attack; in doing so, they set the pace for much popular heavy metal from 1975 until 1985, as well as laying the groundwork for the speed and death metal of the '80s.
