Ready To Be Heard

As a longtime fan of Taylor Carson I am writing this review with unbridled excitement. On Defending The Name he has raised the bar. Blending singer/songwriter pop with folk and rock & roll throughout 16 songs this is a record you can listen to again and again from front to back. Just as rewarding with headphones on the train as the soundtrack to your next house party -- his vocal performances stand out like Martin Sexton and Ray LaMontagne, and while every track has a full band treatment one can hear the acoustic core of each song throughout.

Stand out tracks are the opener and slow-builder, "Moonshiner," the sing-songy "Five," the Shakespeare-esque tragedy "Someone To Love," and pop/rock gems "Die Happy" and "Where We've Been" (the latter being the only song we've seen from him before - previously recorded on "Standing Alone" as a solo piano piece). This record seems to feature a music shop's worth of instruments -- from the traditional acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass and drums to the banjo, mandolin and ... horns! Despite the range of instrumentation, nothing feels out of place -- Taylor Carson and his bandmates journey across genres and vibes while staying true to a the feel of a singular record.

Suffice it to say that with the company he keeps -- touring with songwriters and performers like Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers, Pat McGee, Ellis Paul, Brendan James, Virginia Coalition and Barefoot Truth -- this record stands on its own two feet. He has created a record that demands to be heard and you'd do your ears and spirit a favor by heeding the call. Thank you, Taylor Carson, for this new gem in my library.

Outstanding, Emotional, and Everything You Could Ask for in an Album

This album gives you something that seems to be quite rare now, raw feeling and emotion displayed throughout the entire album. What Taylor Carson brings through your speakers is raw and heartfelt, and you can feel that. Though it is stated that this album is a collection of personal stories, you can bring your own stories to life through this album. I have been highly anticipating this album and I'm glad to say that it does not disappoint! Great talent and music are ever present throughout this entire album!

Real music

Awesome album. "Die Happy" "Someone To Love" "Five" "Alabama" the whole album is great. Turn off pop radio and listen to some real music. Buy it and go see his shows.
