iTunes Review
As he did with his previous mob-centered films Goodfellas and Casino, director Martin Scorsese seasons this remake of the Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs with a well-chosen slate of rock 'n' pop that gracefully underpins the story's era and settings. It’s a collection whose key selections center on the classic rock of The Stones, Beach Boys, Allmans and Badfinger for their instant familiarity, yet one with enough shrewd sense of adventure to include a live version of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" by Roger Waters, Van Morrison and The Band, plus Patsy Cline's original "Sweet Dreams" and a lyrical cover by guitarist Roy Buchanan, as well as the boozy Irish swagger of the Dropkick Murphy's "I'm Shipping Out to Boston" and the loopy '60s proto-garage-punk of the Human Beinz' "Nobody But Me." Rounding out the collection are two tracks showcasing Howard Shore's unusual, guitar-centered instrumental underscore (the complete recording is available separately) via its evocative main theme tango and the contrasting solo classical piece, "Beacon Hill."
Customer Reviews
The best crime drama and soundtrack of the 21st century
Martin Scorsese is the master of the crime drama, and he has remastered it yet again for the 21st century. Not only is The Departed one of the best films of the year, the soundtrack is just as good, if not better. Scorsese works in some of the best "classic" rock songs, with some local Boston bands that make this one of the most appealing soundtracks available on iTunes. If you are interested, the film's score, by Hoawrd Shore, is also a great buy.
AWESOME!
Captivating movie, great soundtrack. I'm a huge Martin Scorsese fan and I must say, he did not disappoint with this flick. As soon as I walked out of the theatre, I had to look up the song "I'm Shipping Up to Boston"....the best song on the soundtrack. I also agree with a previous comment made....when the song plays in the beginning of the movie, and the title pops up on screen, it is so powerful. You know Scorsese is going to take you for a ride!
Best movie of 2006....Great Soundtrack
This movie was by far the best movie of 06, and the soundtrack is awesome. My favorite track is Shipping Off to Boston!!!
