Amazing!

I'm so excited for you guys (and gals). This is such a great, catchy, heartfelt EP. I LOVE it!! Can't wait to see you again live and, of course, looking forward to many more...

In Our Time

The Secret History will inevitably draw comparisons to My Favorite, and there will be people who feel these songs are not as strong as the best of the My Favorite repertoire, or that as strong as these songs are, they would sound ever better if they were voiced by Andrea Vaughn. The first two or three times I listened to this EP I found myself thinking this myself, but I’d like to make a case that the transformation of My Favorite and its rebirth as The Secret History was not only practically but aesthetically necessary. Vaughn’s angelic voice has been succeeded here by the deeper and more earth-bound croon of Lisa Ronson, who sings with mechanical precision about an uncaring and ununderstanding world. The EP reminds us that, even in their brilliant post-2000 Joan of Arc series, My Favorite’s concerns remained those of the twentieth century: fascism, nuclear war, the rise of the teenager. Admittedly, these probably are the most important of all twentieth-century themes, but the songs that consider them do less than they might to prepare us to face the world in which we currently live. In Desolation Town Grace’s songs begin to respond to our modern emergency – to the almost unlivable paradox of being a decent person in Bush’s America.

Pleasantly surprised...

I was one of the many fans who were heartbroken by the breakup of My Favorite a few years back. When I learned that the band regrouped as The Secret History (sans Andrea) I really didn't know what to expect. Well, let's just say that this EP does not disappoint. If you only buy one track from this EP, let it be "It's Not the End of the World, Jonah." Otherwise, buy the whole EP. You will not be disappointed. Be sure to also check out the old band's albums. I would especially recommend the track "Homeless Club Kids" from their last album The Happiest Days of Our Lives.

Years Active: '00s

A stylish yet emotional mix of glam rock, new wave, girl groups, and indie pop, New York's the Secret History formed in 2007 out of the ashes of My Favorite. That group's singer/songwriter, Michael Grace, Jr., guitarist Darren Amadio, bassist Gil Abad, keyboardist Kurt Brondo, and drummer Tod Karsik joined forces with Lisa Ronson, daughter of guitarist Mick Ronson, when she answered the band's ad for a "Female Voice/Tragic Cult Figure." Another vocalist, Erin Dermody, completed the Secret History's...
