Album Review

The stars of the Tokyo noise rock scene High Rise produce some of the most cutting-edge Stooges and MC5 inspired material on their sixth album for PSF. Displaying a more complex rhythmic arrangement to underpin the feedback-fueled guitar chaos, the signature abrasive sound of High Rise II, Dispersion, and Disallow is fully in tact and as baffling as ever. The trio of Nanjo Asahito on bass and vocals, Munehiro Narita on guitar, and Shoji Hano on drums create some of the most dense garage and psychedelic rock, yet always push the envelope further into avant-garde mayhem. Staggering and over-the-top distortion-drenched rock suggests the group mixed the whole album through a fuzz pedal. An inspired blast of rock & roll equaled only by their sister groups Musica Transonic and Acid Mothers Temple in the '90s.
