iTunes Review
Glenn Danzig’s been all over the punk-metal map. His band, the Misfits, are now that of legend and his own spotted solo career, with band or not, has been taken to mythological proportions, even if his commercial success has been less than expected. That said, 2010’s Deth Red Sabaoth is a great album. It’s tough and grimy, featuring Danzig on bass on many tracks and even drums (on the creeping Iggy-to-Jim Morrison dirge “Black Candy”). The Black Sabbath riffs come blurting forth on “Hammer of the Gods” and Danzig channels his very best garage-rock tones with a production as raw and straightforward as any in his career. It’s an analog music lover’s dream come true, with thick guitars and blunt, front-loaded vocals. “The Revengeful” takes a Stooges-like pound and turns it into a sludge feast. “On a Wicked Night” builds to a convincing climax. “Deth Red Moon” sounds like the Misfits slowed down to a punishing stoner-rock pulse. “Ju Ju Bone” throws out a noir riff with Danzig sporting an Elvis sneer. Deth Red Sabaoth is a career highlight.

The Demon MASTER...
I keep reading "he's back" or "it's about time". Hmmm... Obviously not true DANZIG fans. Me? I'd say I'm a fan. I've been listening to DANZIG since the MISFITS (yes that makes me old) and have followed his career with passion and respect. I consider him to be a master. Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash and Danzig. The masters. This new cd is perfect. Like the cd before it... I have never been disapointed. I've been lucky to have seen Danzig live at least 10 times and every experience was awesome. I don't get offended by this new EMO crowd or the kids who discovered DANZIG recently via video games (Rockstar etc...), but I do get annoyed when these "kids" have an opinion on his style or musical choices... I'm a fan. I'm happy. I'm so very happy!! This cd is simply AWESOME!
Danzig was formed in 1987 in Lodi, New Jersey. Glenn Danzig's musical career includes the horror punk bands The Misfits and Samhain. Danzig fuses dark lyrics and imagery with blues-rock influences.
On July 14, 1986, Samhain performed what was to be their final show, at The Ritz in New York City.
In attendance was Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, Run DMC, SLAYER) who was scouting for potential bands to sign to his new record label, Def Jam. Upon viewing Samhain's performance, Rubin was impressed with Glenn Danzig's powerful stage persona and vocal abilities. He met him after the show and propositioned him. At first, he wished only to sign Danzig, with the intent of making him the vocalist for a hard rock supergroup that Rubin envisioned. However, Danzig refused to sign to Rubin's label without Samhain's bassist, Eerie Von, with whom Danzig had become great friends. Rubin agreed to sign Samhain, and he began making suggestions for the new direction he felt the band should take. Rubin felt the music should be stripped down, and that Danzig's vocal talents should become the focal point for the band.
In 1987, the band evolved into a solid hard rock act, with the addition of John Christ on guitar and Chuck Biscuits (now dead) on drums. To reflect the change in musical direction, and to avoid having to ever start anew in the event of future lineup changes, Danzig decided to change the name of Samhain to his own surname, Danzig.
this is why this man has been my favorite artist for almost 20 years!!!
a return to basics, and a welcome return at that. this record represents his whole career from the classic 4 till his more recent material. deth red moon, rebel spirits, on a wicked night, & ju ju bone are stand out tracks for me. but over all this is an awesome record from start to finish. get it now demon f#@kers!!!!!!
