Great movie & soundtrack--but this version is missing songs.
Speaking from an American perspective, my Indian roommate introduced me to this movie--which I loved--and I fell in love with most of the soundtrack. Best songs on this album are Maar Daala, Bairi Piya, & Silsila Ye Chahat Ka. I am only giving this album a 2 because most of the songs from the actual movie are not on this particular album. That is a real shame because those are some really great songs, you'll know what I mean if you actually watch the movie.
If you know what you're getting into, then go for it!
A unique music style, seamlessly blending the flavours of Western and traditional musickes. This is NOT your typical Bollywood soundtrack. Running the gambit from playful to grandiose, this music has a character all its own, even separate of the movie from which it comes. Some of the music is in a more expanded form, here, but I did not notice any major music missing. One thing that should be noted is that the songs do not naturally fall in movie order; rather, the album seems to have been compiled with aesthetics taking precedence over the original storyline of Devdas in mind.
Outstanding!
This soundtrack is amazing. "Silsila Ye Chahat Ka is the best song" The movie is really good too. And of course Aishwaya Rai is amazing!
