FANTASTIC performance
As a conductor myself, I'm a very critical listener, and am rarely satisfied with many of the decisions conductors make in recordings. This performance, however, is one of the most exciting readings of any symphonic work that I've ever heard. Dudamel has already--with one performance--changed the way that the LA Phil plays. For instance, there is a light, sweet lyricism to the string playing that I've never heard in Mahler before, and works beautifully. Dudamel gets the humor and absurdity and pathos that are all in this symphony, and he and the orchestra bring it to life beautifully and with total commitment.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Can someone stop Boolez....
from writing reviews after he listens to the samples.
OMG!
To even have any classical music available in this kind of forum (itunes) is a blessing. I don't know why so many stuck-up critics are judging the performance of this orchestra and its conductor. Go back to listening to your old recordings at home and leave these artists to doing something that will bring the art of classical music to the public scene. We need more listeners and more support in this community of the classical arts, don't kill it for the rest of us.
