Solid performance, great acoustics, good sound, great interpretation - what's not to like?
This is a great performance of a great work. Esa-Pekka Salonen gives us a strong drive straight through, allowing the music to breath just enough, and allowing the performers to perform at their very finest. The ending was exactly how I imagined it; and the standing ovation that followed was sincere (and had to be dimmed out, as people don't cheer increasingly quieter). A very musical performance. I can only give my highest regard.
A sad farewell
For a conductor that gave so much to the LA Phil and contributed greatly to America's music scene. Great playing!
Excellent Live Recording of Early Stravinsky
I have listened to this performance several times since downloading it recently. It is outstanding in every respect. The Philharmonic is considered to be a world-class virtuoso orchestra under Salonen, but the section of the orchestra that impresses me in this recording of Stravinsky's modern ballet masterpiece is the woodwind section. Their playing is superb throughout. Their performance brings out the amazing vibrancy, color, and mood that are hallmarks of Stravinsky's music. The rest of the orchestra, Salonen's affinity for this music, and the superb acoustics of the Walt Disney Concert Hall all contribute to an engrossing musical experience.
