iTunes Review

Maybe the high-water mark of the riot grrrl movement, and one of the best rock'n'roll album of the late '90s. Sleater-Kinney had all the pieces in place before this, its third album--Corin Tucker's hurricane wail, Carrie Brownstein's sly counterpoint vocals and giddy guitar lines, the fierce, dextrous drumming of Janet Weiss--but with Dig Me Out the band consolidated its power and scored a flurry of knockout blows. The title track, the sing-song "Little Babies" and the manifesto-like "Words and Guitar" are perfect rock singles, white-hot bursts of pure melody and verve that flash past in less than three minutes apiece. Elsewhere, Tucker and Brownstein's vocal interplay shine on "One More Hour," their guitars tangle in the anthemic "Heart Factory," and the more restrained "Buy Her Candy" and "Jenny" point to directions the band would explore fruitfully down the road.

Pure Rock

This should be a live album. The songs are bright and you should be jumping around with a sweaty crowd. "Words and Guitars" is an exeptional song, they still play it live. "little babies" is another great song and this is where their "pop" roots start, if you can even call it that. "Dig Me Out" is another AMAZING song that pure rock, and puts them in the category of ROCK STARS. This album shows the begings of them jamming-"Jenny"- to the improving technical aspects of composition-"One More Hour." This Album is fun one of my fav's.

Yeah, baby!

You know how some cd's you don't like the first couple of times you hear it, but then a few more times and it becomes one of your favorites? That's how this cd is (for me at least). Some people don't like the singer's voice, but I do, and their drummer is awsome, and the two-guitar-and-no-bass sound is definately original. Loved it.

amazing!

This album will change your life. It is the most perfect album I have (or ever will) listen to. Incredible to listen to on headphones as well. While I'm quite sad that Sleater-Kinney had to break up, I'm fortunate to have seen them perform so many of these songs live. Album standouts are "Turn It On", "Dance Song '97" and "One More Hour". Janet's drumming, Carrie and Corin's overlapping vocals and guitars make this nothing short of perfect. It's emotional and rocking out all at the same time.

Formed in 1994 from the ashes of Heavens to Betsy and Excuse 17, a pair of groups that rode the first wave of the riot grrrl movement, Sleater- Kinney became one of the most important feminist punk rock bands of the '90s. Singer/guitarists Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein first met in 1992, when Tucker was one half of the duo Heavens to Betsy. Brownstein, a classically trained pianist, was so inspired by Tucker and other grrrl musicians like Bikini Kill and Bratmobile (not coincidentally Tucker's...
