Rosey's cosmic funk on her debut album, Dirty Child, is inspired by this world's most basic need: love. She soaks herself in its beauty and works against its complexities for a magical carpet ride of emotion. It's distinctly focused with an urban appeal while rooted in rock, and a bit comparable to the likes of Poe, Fiona Apple, and Beth Orton. Rosey writes from the heart and it works brilliantly. The narratives of passion, loss, and personal understanding are bold without being naïve. The glossy-cool "Love" struts around blues-tinged beats and lite string arrangements for a spiritual inquisition. "Afterlife" jubilantly follows for a psychedelic celebration of good karma. Rosey attempts to find her own on Dirty Child by expressing her greatest joys, but she's equally free in expressing her frustrations. "Beautiful" is an impressive orchestrated number seeking self-acceptance, while the Lenny Kravitz-like "Desperate" takes a haunting look at an abusive relationship. The sensual, steamy "Like a Dream" is a bright moment, for producer Daryle Swann captured Rosey's most uninhibited stance and she hit her inner core with a velvet touch. Dirty Child is a striking move for this one-time A&R rep. She's independent of corporate monotony because she's already aware of the business. Dirty Child is Rosey's autobiographical sketch and an ultra-groovy effort as well.

What a surprise

Rosey surprised me. This record is truly hidden treasure. The whole thing is much more rewarding as a full package than many similar records out there by comparable voices, yet some tracks really take you somewhere new. I cannot get enough of "Love", track 1, and play it incessantly sometimes over and over. Afterlife, a dance track, has a marvellous lyrical secret hiding behind it's bouyancy. Beautiful is haunting, yet simple, and addictive. Some of the other tracks meander a bit, but none of them fail. Her flavor and theme are consistant, her production is dead on. Whoever you are, you need to get this record. Can't wait to see more videos.

Wonderful

I hate slow songs, but Rosey makes it work. Her voice is like Heaven, there really is no other way to describe her music. It is not a pop thing, this is real R&B-Rhythmn and BLUES!

Nice

Came accross this album through a long series of links starting at Jeff Buckley's website, then Sin-e in NYC and finally someone else's webpage on myspace. Incredible album. Sounds a bit like Madeleine Peyroux, but more sultry and obviously more American. Great bluesy feel. Funny where you find some of your new favorites. This little lady should be out in front before too long.

She found her parents' record collection around age seven and couldn't resist the infectious pop sounds of the Fab Four. By college, she was spinning world music at her college radio station and absorbing the vast selection of urban fusion. And through countless music industry jobs, Rosey found her calling.
