iTunes Review

Singer and rhythm guitarist Sallie Ford has a distinctive, wildly expressive voice that probably isn’t for everyone — it’s one of those kinds of voices — but those inclined will be knocked out 30 seconds into Dirty Radio’s catchy opener, “I Swear.” Her quirky phrasing, reminiscent of Billie Holiday and Etta James, and blues- shouter delivery is the definite centerpiece of the album, but there is much to love here. A voice as powerful and versatile as Ford’s deserves a revved-up band, and that’s what she gets in the Sound Outside. The tight guitar/drums/upright bass trio combines retro-swing, rockabilly, and plenty of rock ‘n’ roll attitude and provides a solid foundation for Ford’s sharp songwriting. Many of the tunes are playful and infectiously fun (“I Swear,” “Cage,” “This Crew”) but that’s only half the story. “Thirteen Years Old” is musically stark and lyrically dark, the haunting use of strings on “Miles” sets it apart from the punchier tracks, and “Write Me a Letter” displays Ford’s vocal range and songwriting depth. Dirty Radio is an impressive debut that bridges the past and present with style.

LOVE IT!!!

Sweet Jesus this album rocks! Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside is bloody amazing! 5 stars all the way

Finally, something new worth listening to!

I happened across one of Sallie Ford's songs before her first album came out. I fell deeply in love immediately. Her music has a kind of whimsical, playful old-fashioned style to it. I expect she will get big pretty fast. Its too bad iTunes doesn't have 'Not an Animal' available for download though, its her best song!

A wonderful taste of old, but a burst of the modern!

Love it!! Sallie's voice is incredible and the lyrics are well thought out and fresh to my musical palette. A must have for anyone who likes rock and roll, but is yearning for a unique twist!
