Album Review

First, a clarification: Aeternam should not be confused with the Swedish death metal band In Aeternum. There might be some confusion because of the similarity of their names and because both are part of death metal, but Aeternam are not from Sweden — they're from Quebec City, Canada — and Aeternam's approach to death metal is quite different from In Aeternum's approach to death metal. In Aeternum's albums are known for being vicious and unforgiving; Disciples of the Unseen, however, is quite melodic. Melody isn't a mere afterthought on nuanced offerings like "Esoteric Formulae" and "Ouroboros"; it is an essential part of the Canadians' musical vision, which owes a lot to the more musical side of European extreme metal. Aeternam do get some inspiration from Scandinavian death metal bands, but they don't emulate the unapologetically harsh bands like In Aeternum. Rather, Aeternam inspire comparisons to the more melodic Swedish death metallers such as At the Gates and In Flames. But Aeternam have an appealing energy of their own — and while many of the melodic death metal (and symphonic black metal) bands coming out of Sweden, Norway, and Finland have been affected by traditional Nordic folk, this early-2010 release has a strong Middle Eastern influence. Aeternam aren't the only metalheads who appreciate Middle Eastern music; for example, the Israeli band Distorted have combined alternative metal and goth metal with Middle Eastern elements. But it is safe to say that as of early 2010, melodic death metal bands that are as overtly Middle Eastern-minded as Aeternam are the exception rather than the rule. And Aeternam deserve cheers for both the musicality and the risk-taking spirit that they bring to this promising, memorable CD.

PEOPLE NEED TO READ THIS!!!

I cant understand how an album this great has no reviews, well 1st review. Man what can I say, one well of an album. This singer has an amazing unique voice. He only sings about 30percent of the album but his epic eerie melodies tie together the flawless progressiveness through the song and makes these guys not just another death metal band. The vocalists growls remind me very much of the Behemoth singer. I dont know why but i find them really similiar. When the vocalist sings he reminds me of Ivan Moody, yes he is a member of the mediocre band Five Finger Death Punch, but when Ivan was in his previous much better band Motograter. Check em out if you havent, but thats essentially what this album is. Kinda of epic creapy melodies and brutal progressive speed metal. Anyways obviously the vocalist is amazing, the guitars are tight with extremely good solos and riffs. The drums are though not too impressive but it keeps everything interesting. Check this album out right now. These guys deserve attention and they are really unique. Nothing here is ground breaking but its a really great album.

Best songs in my opinion are:
Esoteric Formulae

The coronation of seth

circle in flames

Melechesh and Behemoth had a baby...its name is Aeternam

this band combines the mesopotamian metal storm that is Melechesh with the black metal force of Behemoth and creates an amazing black metal/ middle eastern album. If you are a fan of Behemoth you will recognize the vocals sound almost exactly like Nergal, and if any of you have heard Melechesh's Emissaries album you will like the middle eastern influences of this album as well. I was very impressed to find this type of metal because it is really hard to find unique stuff these days, too many bands sound the same or are selling out and going mainstream. Can't forget to mention the really badass and very artistic album cover, kudos to whoever created the epic album art. Nothing says metal like a giant demon being summoned from hell by a necromancer...sweet. Aeternam kicks things up a notch and keeps things fresh and most importantly they keep things -> Metal.
Buy. Listen. Bang your head.
