Album Review

Although they've been compared to such pissed-yet-tuneful Brits of yesteryear as Elvis Costello and the Jam, the Birmingham, U.K. based quartet Beat Union has also studied modern day pop-punk, as evidenced throughout their U.S. debut, 2008's Disconnected. In other words, the group favors a glossy-sounding production which reflects the modern day messy-haired, mascara-and-tie-wearing set, rather than the aforementioned acts. As a result, it's the same style that zillions of other similarly styled acts have adopted regularly in the wake of Green Day and blink-182 mania: singsongy choruses, relentlessly bashed power chords (but under a sticky sweet sheen), and cutesy boy-girl lyrics, as evidenced by such tuneful ditties as the title track, "Pressure Zone," and "Jonny Loves Jojo." Overall, Disconnected is equally a fitting soundtrack for an episode of The O.C. or a Sweet 16 roller staking party.

I sure "Don't Have Love"

I bought this CD after listening to Pressure Zone, which was a pretty solid track, and seeing the album on sale, I bought it. No wonder it was on sale. The rest didn't do much for me.Dull lyrics, sugary vocals, same beats.. maybe they are amazing live but in no WAY are they the Ramones. That's like calling Ashlee Tisdale the new Pat Benetar. I don't really have to explain that one.My copy is now in some Half Price Books store, collecting dust on a shelf. Can't Stop The Radio would be an alright radio single on some pop station.

Awesome

These guys are so cool live I'ma see them at Warped Tour 2008 so excited!

Brilliant....ska/rock/punk at it's best!!!

This is a great release for BU. I also saw them in Denver and I have to say their debut does not give juistice to their live show. It is however a great reminder. Such a musically diverse group to be able to implement rock and ska roots along with punk progression and, keep the heart there. These guys are as real as it gets. I look forward to what the future holds. Matter of fact I can't wait!
